If you have that one dream that wakes you up from sleep.

Dignified living to every life with roof on their head!

They say 'Home is where the heart is'. Food, Cloth and Shelter are the basic things that are required for a decent living. A roof above you protects you from sun, rain, dust and wild animals. Poverty has pushed the rural population to migrate to urban areas in search of job and better living. Due over population the urban spaces have shrunk and resulted in a homelessness condition. In all our projects, we see that how we achieve one of our core objective of pushing back the migrated urban population to rural population.

Project Nilaya wants to build pakka housing for a family of four to six using locally procurable materials and also sustainable building materials. We see that the need for homes are more in urban areas compared to rural areas as stated due to lack of space. Also the cost of land in cities are much higher although there are possibilities of building vertical structures in the OUTSKIRTS of cities but then again it will only expand the geography of city, thereby making us to step back in our objective of remigration.

There are few important aspects that we have taken into consideration while designing the basic requirement of the houses. Other than shelter, there are three main constitutes that add up.

First being the water source. It can be either from the gram panchayats pipelines, wells, bore wells, ponds, lakes, rivers etc but we want to have a source which is ideal and doesn’t depend upon these above mentioned sources. By harvesting the rainwater in a rectangular or a cubical tank which is built under the foundation of a house. A family of 4 needs around 400 liters per day. If we consider a small plot having a rooftop area of 600sqmt (30x20) and assuming the plot to be in the northern Karnataka regions which receives an average rainfall of 700mm, rainfall is calculated in mm which means 1 litre of water is received for a 1 sqmt. Having 3 months of rain, we can have a total of 600sqmt x 700 litres x 90 days = 3.78cr litres which is far lesser than the requirement of 400lts x 365 = 146000. Hence water requirement can be easily met by harvesting the rainwater.

The second being the energy requirement. Most of the household require a maximum of 1kW which can be easily produced from the rooftop solar energy and stored. Lights and motors will be of advanced technology and the complete energy requirement will be of DC instead of AC.
The building materials will be procured and produced locally like the clay bricks. Cement would be avoided. The design of the house would be such the need for ventilation will be minimal.

The most innovative part of the project would be that the complete house will not be build but would 3D printed. The machinery and robotics would be designed and developed under this project in collaboration with YUVA Labs.
